A question we often receive is whether hospitals with accredited stroke centers pay more for call coverage and medical directorships than other facilities. MD Ranger’s analysis shows that call coverage benchmarks for accredited stroke centers are higher than benchmarks for non-stroke centers. Stroke center status did not create a significant difference in rates for medical direction contracts.

Further analysis showed that there was an additional differential in call coverage rates between Comprehensive Stroke Centers (CSC) and Primary Stroke Centers (PSC). On average, CSCs pay 35% more than the all hospitals benchmark, PSCs pay only 1% more than the all hospitals benchmark, and hospitals without an accredited stroke center pay 13% less than the all hospitals benchmark.
