MD Ranger Report Series
Physician Contract Benchmarks at Your Fingertips
MD Ranger's reports deliver a comprehensive set of easy-to-use benchmarks for a wide range of emergency call coverage, medical direction, leadership and administrative services, hospital-based group services, and diagnostic testing and clinical services. Our benchmarks are based on subscriber data and the founders' proprietary contract database, encompassing more than 150 hospitals, 3,500 contracts and 20 states.
Emergency Call Coverage
This report contains percentile ranges for a broad scope of call coverage services. Benchmarks are reported for:
- Mean, median, 25th percentile, and 75th percentile per diem payments
- Proportion of facilities that do not compensate physicians for call services
- Types of physician payment systems
- Other elements including hospital payer mix and size, whether practice activities are restricted while a physician is on call, or the number of sites covered by a panel.
Medical Direction, Leadership, and Administrative Services
This report contains physician contract payment ranges for medical directorship, administrative, and leadership services. In addition to the standard payment benchmarks, the reporting and analysis includes:
- Minimum and/or maximum hours per year for medical directors
- Total compensation per year and per hour for medical directors
- The relationship, if any, between compensation rate and physician specialty
- Proportion of facilities that do not compensate physicians for medical direction or administrative duties
Hospital-Based Services and Other Contractual Arrangements (coming in 2010)
This report includes services covered by physician groups contracting with a hospital to provide comprehensive coverage services, including on-site coverage, on-call or emergency department coverage, clinical services, administration and medical direction. other factors that may prove significant. The following services may be reported:
- Anesthesia
- Critical Care/Intensivists
- Radiology
- Hospitalists (including subspecialty programs)

Diagnostic Testing and Clinical Services (coming in 2010)

- Acute dialysis
- Pulmonary function testing
- Electroencephalogram (EEG)
- Echocardiogram (ECG) and electrocardiogram (EKG)

Custom Reports
The extensive MD Ranger database may be used to evaluate unique physician contracting situations and significant factors that affect physician compensation, such as level of service, depth of coverage, provision for unsponsored patients, multi-campus arrangements, and dual-panel arrangements. Custom reports and consulting services will be available through MD Ranger and its affiliated consulting firms, Cattaneo & Stroud, Inc. and HealthWorks, Inc. to analyze situations not included in the Standard Reports.
All MD Ranger reports comply with federal requirements for the anti-trust safety zone.
